FAQS

Do you accept insurance for couples counseling?

Douglas Counseling is out of network with insurance. We specialize in couples and relationship counseling, and most insurance providers will not reimburse for these services because they are not considered a “medical necessity.”

Can I use my insurance if I am doing individual counseling?

If you have “out of network benefits for counseling” you may be able to use your insurance to cover a portion of the cost for counseling. Plans that offer out of network benefits for counseling often reimburse at a rate of 50-75% of the session cost.

How do I find out if I have out of network benefits for counseling?

You will need to call your insurance provider and ask specifically if you have “out of network benefits for counseling” as part of your insurance plan.

If I have out of network benefits, how do I find out what rates my insurance provider will reimburse me for counseling services?

We suggest contacting your insurance provider and asking them the following questions:

“Do I have a yearly deductible that must be met before I am eligible to receive reimbursement for counseling services?”

“What rates do you reimburse for the following codes?”

Code 90847 (family psychotherapy/conjoint psychotherapy with the patient present

Code 90837 (psychotherapy 60 minutes)

If you do have out of network benefits for counseling, we are happy to provide you with the required documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

The No Surprises Act and understanding your rights to a Good Faith Estimate

Requesting an Estimate

You are welcome to request a Good Faith Estimate at any time during your treatment. Your counselor will provide you with this estimate and note their estimate in your client record.
